Ms Cutts said though the budget reductions would hit some people, it was important that the council and other organisations worked together. She added: "We very much value the key contribution made by groups that operate with the backing of Supporting People.
·
·
·
·
"So we've worked very hard to arrive at the best-possible budget option to allow them to continue delivering their very important services.
"We have consulted with every household, on two occasions, as we believe it is important to speak with the public."
The Supporting People programme looks after the needs of homeless and other vulnerable people.
Previously, the money was supplied by the Government on a ring- fenced basis, meaning the authority had to spend all of its allowance on that area.
But the Government allowance from next year will no longer be ring-fenced.
The council will therefore fund the services through its formula grant, which is taking a 12.7 per cent cut next year.
The authority consulted on whether the budget should be cut by Pounds 10m, Pounds 12.5m or Pounds 15m. It favoured the middle option but more than four-fifths of those consulted disagreed. Now, Ms Cutts says the Pounds 10m reduction would be in line with other savings.

HOW ON EARTH DO HERTS C C THINK ELDERLY AND VULNERABLE MAKE UP THE SUPPORTING PEOPLE SHORT FALL GO AND GET A JOB?ITSTRUEISWEARnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7999633524276247455.post-79075484393591060062011-03-10T00:17:10.188+00:002011-03-10T00:17:10.188+00:00The judicial review of Barnet council's cost-c...The judicial review of Barnet council's cost-cutting decision followed a campaign by elderly residents of sheltered housing in the north London borough.
They claimed that Barnet behaved unlawfully by deciding to scrap the wardens, because it failed to take into account the terms of the residents' tenancy agreements, its duties under the disability discrimination act and the effect on tenants, particularly those who are disabled.
Sir Jeremy Beecham, leader of the Local Government Association's Labour group, described the move as "a victory for the vulnerable over the vicious cuts of Tory Councils".
He said: "Today's judicial review ruling against Barnet council is a welcome defeat of the reckless Conservative approach to slashing public services which people depend on.
"This decision should send a clear message to Cameron if he's listening: people will simply not accept local government renouncing responsibility for vital services, and he should think hard before adopting such an approach nationally."
A spokesman for Barnet said the authority was likely to appeal.
"The judgment suggests that a council has to demonstrate that every member, not just officers, involved in the decision making gave full and stated consideration to all relevant legislation and guidance," he said.STAN BYRNEnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7999633524276247455.post-41520217397540473692011-03-10T00:04:19.083+00:002011-03-10T00:04:19.083+00:00BRILLIANT YOU ARE A GEM /DIDN'T BARNET COUNCIL...BRILLIANT YOU ARE A GEM /DIDN'T BARNET COUNCIL TRY THIS AND THEN DROP IT/STAN BYRNEnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7999633524276247455.post-77723320272894381052011-03-07T08:57:53.401+00:002011-03-07T08:57:53.401+00:00Merton council residents with mental health diffic...Merton council residents with mental health difficulties, have just had their independence taken away.
This will cost merton more!
The council also stopped public consultation, although as a resident for 20 years I was not aware of any!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7999633524276247455.post-88939948952030963802011-03-05T22:45:40.712+00:002011-03-05T22:45:40.712+00:00As a Herts resident...thank you and good luck!As a Herts resident...thank you and good luck!Funky Mangohttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12169019858118418939noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7999633524276247455.post-49078632839292333832011-03-04T15:19:27.619+00:002011-03-04T15:19:27.619+00:00Just received a copy of Hertfordshire Action on Di...Just received a copy of Hertfordshire Action on Disability's submission to the court confirming their support for my application and detailing the level of the cuts being imposed on them and the inevitable consequence for the disabled people in Hertfordshire who they seek to serve.

In other news the High Court have had to delay considering the interim order for a few days as HCC have yet to answer my application by way of an an Acknowledgement of Service, so it may be a week or so before this is actually considred.

As always in these situations (I've been to judicial review a few times now) I am heartend by the fact the case is listed as:

The Queen on the application of Peter John Farrington v Hertfordshire County Council

Can't think of anyone better to have on one's side at a time like this even though in this case its a technicality of how the judicial review system works. :)Peter aka Sociablehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17054168952104136982noreply@blogger.com
